Leadership

John Zhao is the Chairman and CEO of Hony Capital, an alternative investment management group focusing on opportunities in China. Since its founding in 2003, Hony Capital has gained leading market positions in private equity and real estate investments in China. Under his leadership, Hony Capital currently manages over $12 billion of assets and has invested in approximately 100 companies in China and abroad, including Hospital Corporation of China Limited, Best Food Holding Company Limited, Goldstream Investment Limited, Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science and Technology Co., Ltd, Suning, STX Entertainment, Simcere Pharmaceutical and CSPC Pharmaceutical. Mr. Zhao holds an MBA degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, Master’s degrees in Electronic Engineering and Physics from Northern Illinois University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Nanjing University.

Bing Yuan is the Chief Operating Officer (“COO”) of Hony Capital, and a member of Hony Capital’s Executive Committee. Mr. Yuan is responsible for all of Hony’s equity investment operations with a total asset under management of over US$10 billion. Mr. Yuan joined Hony Capital in April 2009 and has served as a Managing Director of Private Equity since January 2010, and as Head of Private Equity since July 2012. Mr. Yuan’s major investment track records include Giant Interactive and ByteDance in the TMT industry; and Biosensors, Simcere Pharmaceutical, Neusoft Medical, I-Mab and Simcere Diagnosis in the healthcare industry. Prior to joining Hony Capital, Mr. Yuan served as a Managing Director of the Special Situation Group of Morgan Stanley Asia Limited from 2008 to 2009, and before that as a Managing Director of the Investment Banking Division of Morgan Stanley Asia Limited from April 2004 to June 2008. Prior to that, Mr. Yuan served as a Vice President with Credit Suisse First Boston in Hong Kong and New York from August 1998 to March 2004, focused on corporate finance and merger & acquisitions transactions in the technology, media and telecom industry. Mr. Yuan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Nanjing University in July 1990, a Master’s degree in International Relations from Yale University in June 1993, and a Juris Doctorate’s degree from Yale Law School in June 1998.

Qiang Jiang, an independent director nominee , is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Yidebang, a leading medical technology company focused on providing medical services to the rural communities in China. Mr. Jiang has been Non-Executive Director of Biosensors International Group, Ltd. since July 2015 and served as its Executive Director from January 2014 to July 2015, Chief Operating Officer from January 2014 to June 2015 and prior to that also served as its Non-Executive Non-Independent Director from October 2011 to January 2014. Prior to that, Mr. Jiang served as Consultant, Head of Corporate Strategy and Deputy General Manager, and Financial Controller of Shandong Weigao Group Medical Polymer Co. Ltd. until August 2011. Mr. Jiang joined Shandong Weigao Group Medical Polymer Co. Ltd. in June 2002. Mr. Jiang has extensive experience in Accounting and Financial Management and is a Certified Public Accountant. He obtained a Master Degree in International Finance from Northeast University of Finance and Economics in 1998.

James R. Lee is the founder of Lee & Partners, an international strategic advisory and private investment company, and chairman of the Lee Foundation. After graduating from the US Army and Navy Academy at age 13, he went on to study at the Beijing Language and Culture University, LSE, and Harvard Kennedy School. Lee is a fellow at the Wharton School and is active on various boards at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2011, Lee was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Lee was honored by INDEX:, the world’s largest design prize, as one of the “Top 30 Creative Leaders in the World.” In 2013, Lee was recognized by Business Life as one of the world’s ten most influential business professors. He has led internationalization efforts on behalf of companies including Li & Fung, LG and POSCO. Lee is an advisor to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Trade and Investment and KPMG’s Global China Practice M3 Initiative in partnership with the Development Research Center of the State Council of PRC. Mr. Lee is a founding curator of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers community. Mr. Lee is a member of the Danish Foreign Policy Society, Milken Institute, Chatham House and President William Jefferson Clinton’s “Millennium Network.” Mr. Lee also serves on the board of directors of several non-profit organization including the Global Advisory Board of IN{LUDED, Mercy Corps’ East Asia Advisory Council and was elected in 2016 to the Board of Governors of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts under the Patronage of the Prince of Wales.
