Leadership

Richard Laxer will serve as Chairman of our board of directors . Mr. Laxer, 60, is a dual citizen of the United States and United Kingdom. He previously spent over 30 years in senior leadership positions with GE and was most recently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GE Capital from 2016 until 2018. In this role he oversaw the completion of the GE Capital Disposition Program (approximately $200 billion of asset and business sales) and the transition of approximately 50,000 employees to new roles within GE or externally. Throughout his career at GE, Mr. Laxer has built a track record of developing and executing strategies to optimize major global businesses through fundamental strategic shifts and economic cycles to consistently outperform rapidly changing markets. He has extensive experience in corporate finance including responsibility for multiple M&A projects and IPOs in Europe and globally. In addition, Mr. Laxer has gained significant experience throughout his career in serving on the boards of numerous public and privately held organizations, including serving as board chairman on multiple occasions. Over the last three years, he has been actively involved with several financial technology companies. Mr. Laxer holds a BS in Business and Economics from Skidmore College. We believe Mr. Laxer’s experience as a senior financial services executive makes him well qualified to serve as a director.

Artur Dela will serve as Vice Chairman of our board of directors . Mr. Dela, 64, is a French and Polish citizen and a resident of Switzerland. He has 40 years of experience as a manager, entrepreneur and investor in the areas of sustainable development, technology, media and telecommunications. He currently serves as Executive Chairman of Eneris Group, a privately held Luxembourg-based company of which he is also the founder and principal shareholder. The group’s main activities are in the field of waste management in Poland. Eneris Group acquired the Polish waste operations of Veolia in 2016, and under Mr. Dela’s leadership has since achieved substantial value creation over five years. Mr. Dela also oversees a diverse range of investments in environmental services, energy and clean technology (including, for example, in the areas of lithium-ion cells and batteries, hydrogen, energy storage and e-mobility). Over the course of his career, Mr. Dela participated in the launch of the Apple Macintosh computer, marketing-communication integration and globalization strategies for various companies. Mr. Dela has also been involved in the cable, satellite and internet industries. He was an early participant in European fixed satellite services and he led the first private investment in Eutelsat at its privatization in 2001. In 2004, he arranged capital from major global private equity investors to finance the consolidation of additional ownership interests in Eutelsat. Since 2005 Mr. Dela has been dedicated to environmental protection businesses. Mr. Dela holds an MA in Philosophy from University of Paris X, an MA in Communications from University of Paris XIII and an MBA from HEC Paris. We believe Mr. Dela’s experience as a senior executive, entrepreneur and investor in the environmental and clean technology sectors makes him well qualified to serve as a director.

Michal Krupinski is our Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer and serves on our board of directors . Mr. Krupinski, 40, is a Polish citizen and a Swiss resident. He was formerly Chief Executive Officer of Bank Pekao, Poland’s second largest commercial and investment bank, from 2017 until 2019. During his time there, he led the bank’s digital transformation and growth. Prior to his role at Bank Pekao, Mr Krupinski was Chief Executive Officer of PZU, the largest insurance group in Central and Eastern Europe. While at PZU, Mr. Krupinski led the acquisition of Bank Pekao, and also pursued a digitization strategy to drive underwriting growth. Mr. Krupinski previously led Bank of America’s investment banking efforts in Central and Eastern Europe from 2011 to 2016, where he was responsible for multiple M&A transactions and equity and debt capital markets. Prior to his role at Bank of America, Mr. Krupinski gained significant policy and regulatory experience as an Alternate Executive Director of the World Bank Group from 2008 to 2011 and as Deputy Minister of the State Treasury of Poland from 2005 to 2007. Mr. Krupinski holds a MSc from the Warsaw School of Economics and a MA (D.E.S) in European Economy from UCL Belgium. In addition, he holds an MBA from Columbia University. He was named a Young Global Leader in 2012 by the World Economic Forum. We believe Mr. Krupinski’s experience as a senior financial services executive makes him well qualified to serve as a director.

Walid Kamhawi is our Co-Founder and Investment Director and currently serves on our board of directors . Mr. Kamhawi, 48, is a British citizen and a resident of Monaco. He has over 25 years of experience in private equity investing and investment banking. During his career he has held roles at Blackstone Group, Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc., the Russian Direct Investment Fund, and Techinvest Corporation. At Blackstone, Mr. Kamhawi spent most of his 12-year tenure with the firm in their office in London, participating in a substantial number of investments in the media, telecommunications and environmental services sectors during this period. At the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Mr. Kamhawi assisted the fund, in his capacity as Senior Advisor, and executed a number of investments, including in media, financial services, industrial manufacturing and other sectors. At Bear, Stearns and at Techinvest, Mr. Kamhawi was involved in a number of transactions, principally in the media, telecommunications and technology sectors. Since 2015, he has focused on equity transactions in the technology sector. Particularly, in the media, telecommunications, and environmental services sectors, he has been involved in transactions achieving significant value creation throughout the course of his career. Overall, throughout his career, Mr. Kamhawi has gained significant experience in debt securities and equity capital markets transactions, having been involved in over $23 billion (by transaction value, inclusive of issued or assumed debt) of investment transactions. Mr. Kamhawi holds a BS in Computer Science and Economics from Dartmouth College. We believe Mr. Kamhawi’s experience in private equity, investing and investment banking makes him well qualified to serve as a director.

Kamil Borowik is our Co-Founder and Chief Financial Officer . Mr. Borowik, 40, is a dual citizen of Poland and the United Kingdom. Mr. Borowik has more than 15 years of experience as a finance and investment manager specializing in technology, renewable energy and financial services in Europe and global emerging markets. Mr. Borowik was a senior member of the investment and portfolio oversight team and member of regional investment committees at LGT from 2017 to 2018. During this time, he was involved in launching a global impact and ESG private equity fund. From 2013 until 2017, Mr. Borowik was a director at The Abraaj Group in London, and was involved in financial services and technology, media and telecommunications investments as well as in the set-up of four global thematic impact and ESG investing funds (inclusive of green energy). From 2010 until 2013, Mr Borowik worked for Goldman Sachs’ investment banking division in London, focusing on financial technology , media, and telecommunications. Mr. Borowik started his career at KPMG and subsequently also worked at The World Bank Group on banking including AML/CFT, financial technology and energy efficiency programs. Mr. Borowik holds an MBA from London Business School, and a BA in International Business and an MA in Economics from Cracow University of Economics. In addition, he completed an Executive Leadership Program at Vanderbilt University. We believe Mr. Borowik’s experience as a finance and investment manager in technology, green energy and financial services makes him well qualified to serve as a director.

Jeffrey Schumacher will serve as a non-executive director on our board of directors. Mr. Schumacher, 48, is a United States citizen and a resident of California. He has 25 years of experience building new businesses and transforming large corporations and has been actively involved in founding over 100 early-growth companies as an operator, investor and entrepreneur. Mr. Schumacher is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the NAX, a pioneer in transforming corporate assets with cutting-edge financial and technology models. Mr. Schumacher previously co-founded BCG Digital Ventures, one of the fastest-growing venture investment and incubation firms worldwide. He spent nearly half a decade developing the business model for BCG Digital Ventures, which he subsequently scaled into a global platform with innovation centers across four continents, creating transformative digital businesses for large multinational corporations. Prior to founding BCG Digital Ventures, he was a Partner at McKinsey & Company and was the founder of their Global Solution Center, which was a machine learning business supporting clients in healthcare, consumer and industrial goods. Mr. Schumacher also held roles as the Chief Marketing Officer, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of Sports Authority. He frequently contributes to media conversations speaking on the topic of digital disruption throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. We believe Mr. Schumacher’s experience as an operator, investor and entrepreneur makes him well qualified to serve as director.

William Jones will serve as a non-executive director on our board of directors. Mr. Jones, 58, is a citizen of Luxembourg. Mr. Jones has over 32 years of experience in the funds industry and has held senior positions at Commodities Corporation, Goldman Sachs Asset Management International and HSBC Bank Bermuda Limited. During his career, Mr. Jones has held directorship roles at investment funds and related entities which are sponsored by major US and international banks and asset management companies. Mr. Jones currently acts as an advisor and director at various start-ups and early stage companies and is the founder of Beaumont Governance, which provides directorship and corporate governance services from Luxembourg. Mr. Jones completed the first cohort of the IIDP in 2011. Mr. Jones was also a member of the IIDP Advisory Board from 2011 to 2017 and served as its first President from 2011 to 2015. In 2011, Mr. Jones was accredited as a certified director by the IIDP and the ILA. He also served on the Board of Directors of ILA from 2016 until 2020, and served on its Fund Governance Committee for ten years. Mr. Jones has also served on the Board of Governors of the International School of Luxembourg from 2011 to 2015 and as Chairman from 2014 to 2015. Mr. Jones holds a law and business degree from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University.

Fasih Rehman will serve as Executive Vice Chairman on our board of directors. Mr. Rehman, 45, is a British citizen and a resident of Scotland. He is an entrepreneur and investor with a successful track record investing in and managing European mid-market businesses primarily in the energy technology sector. Mr. Rehman co-founded TDG, a high-tech condition monitoring business based in Scotland serving the power sector globally and executed a buy and build strategy backed by HSBC record. TDG was sold to Danaher Corporation in 2009 and was short listed as BVCA Deal of the Year. Mr. Rehman was also one of the main shareholders and director of QED International, a UK commissioning technology business in the energy sector sold to AMEC plc in 2011 in a successful exit for the shareholders. Mr. Rehman’s other roles include founder and owner of Perle Hotels since 2014 and Managing Director at PrimePartners Singapore from 2011 to 2013. Mr. Rehman started his career at Deloitte & Touche in the Audit and Assurance practice later moving to its corporate finance practice specializing in the Energy, Infrastructure and Utilities Sector and he is currently a qualified Chartered Accountant (ICAEW).
